Getting the Word Out

The League encourages young voters to voice their opinions on issues that matter most to them. Below are a few way to voice your opinion.

1) If you are passionate about a specific issue contact your local elected official to let them know how you feel. This can help hold elected officials accountable. Use this tool to find your local officials!

2) Post to Facebook or Twitter a new article about the issue you care most about. This helps facilitate discussion.

3) Write a post on an issue you care about and email it to YoungVoters207@Gmail.Com so we can feature it on our blog!

4) Publishing your opinion in local newspapers is one of the best ways to let your representative/senator and community members know how you feel about an issue.

If you’re particularly passionate about an issue, take a few minutes to write a 350-500 word letter to the editor. Remember to:

  • Keep it focused on a particular point or recent news item.
  • Be specific and share 1 or 2 compelling facts that you may know about an issue.
  • Be sure to include your contact info, and a number they can reach you at. Papers sometimes need to contact you before they can print a letter.

Here a quick list of papers and information on where to submit. Visit the website of the paper you want to submit to BEFORE submitting your letter to make sure you follow any specific guidelines that they may have:
